 Shivapuri day hiking start northern side of Kathmandu valley starting from Budanilkantha which is famous Hindu & Buddhist pilgrim site to the Sivapuri Hill.Shivapuri Hill is among the most accessible and popular day hikes from the city, located inside the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, which lies on the northern edge of Kathmandu Valley. It reaches a height of about 2,732 meters and hence offers great views of Kathmandu Valley along with distant Himalayan ranges such as Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and sometimes even Manaslu on clear days. The trail features peaceful forests, monasteries, small villages, and natural springs, making it ideal for both nature lovers and casual hikers.

                       Cost Breakdown

For independent hikers, the main cost is the national-park entry fee:

•          Foreigners: NPR 1,000

•          SAARC nationals: NPR 600

• Nepali citizens: NPR 100

Transportation from central Kathmandu to either the Budhanilkantha or Pani Muhan entrance can cost from NPR 800-1,500 one way, depending on distance, by taxi. Cheaper options are available for public buses, with less convenience. For food, snacks, and water, you can usually add NPR 300-800. Hiring a local guide is optional, but helpful; guide fees generally range from NPR 2,000-3,500 for the day.

Most tour operators quote a package for $ USD 70-80 usually covering permits, transport, guide, and sometimes lunch.

Sample Itinerary Full Day Hike

• 7:00 AM: Drive from Kathmandu to Budhanilkantha.

• 8:00 AM: Arrive at Shivapuri National Park gate, purchase entry tickets, and register.

• 8:15 AM: Start the hike through dense forest trails. The first part is gradual, later becoming steeper as you approach Nagi Gompa and the upper viewpoints.

•          10:30–11:00 AM: Arrive at Nagi Gompa monastery or proceed further up toward the Shivapuri summit.

•          12:00 PM: Arrive at the top. Take in the panoramic mountain and valley views while resting and eating lunch or snacks.

•          1:00 PM: Start descending using the same trail.

•          3:00–4:00 PM: Arrive back at the park entrance and return to Kathmandu.

The Constituent Assembly has finally been dissolved after four years in existence and a date has been set for the election of a new one. There is great public disappointment that the political process that started with the coming together of the Maoist party and non-Maoist parties in 2005 in New Delhi failed to deliver on its mandate. There are a number of areas that will require attention. First, the failure has made it clear that leaders across party lines lack the ability to work together and reach compromise, even though they have been working together for over five years.
