Day 1: Fly to Lukla (2,840 m) – Trek to Phakding (2,610
m)
Your journey starts with a panoramic 35-minute mountain
flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the most iconic airstrips in the world.
Upon landing, you'll meet your guide and porter, finalize the permits, and
start trekking. The trail descends relatively gradually along the Dudh Koshi
River and passes through small Sherpa settlements, like Cheplung. You can see
views of Kusum Kangaru along the route and enjoy the serene riverside
atmosphere. After 3-4 hours of easy trekking, you will reach Phakding, where you
will be checked into a teahouse for dinner and rest.
Day 2: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)
From here, after breakfast, start your trek uphill towards
Namche Bazaar. The trail crosses several suspension bridges, one among them
being the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. You will reach Monjo village and
then enter Sagarmatha National Park, where permits are checked. The path gets
steeper as you ascend through pine and rhododendron forests. The final ascent
is quite demanding, but eventually, you reach Namche Bazaar, the dynamic Sherpa
capital. The vibrant town is packed with cafés, bakeries, shops, and great
sights of Kongde Ri. Trek duration: 5–6 hours.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
This day is fundamental to acclimatization. Begin with a
short hike to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 meters, considered one of the
best viewpoints for a panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama
Dablam. Later, visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and the Sagarmatha National Park
Museum, and explore Namche's famous market. The afternoon is at leisure or to
enjoy coffee at one of the local cafes. Overnight at Namche.
Day 4: Trek Back from Namche Bazaar to Lukla
After breakfast, begin the descent along the same trail.
Cross the suspension bridges and pass through Jorsalle, Monjo, and Phakding to
rise the final stretch to Lukla. This is a long day of trekking, 6-7 hours, but
there is plenty of time to take things at your own pace and soak up the
scenery. Arrive in Lukla and celebrate the end of your trek with your guide and
porte
Day 5: Fly Back to Kathmandu
Take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. After
landing, transfer to your hotel for the conclusion of your Namche Bazaar
trekking adventure.
