Namche bazaar trek | Namche bazaar Nepal | Lukla namche bazaar trek
Day 1: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840 m) and Trek to Phakding
(2,610 m)
Your day starts with an early morning flight from Kathmandu
to Lukla, one of the most dramatic mountain airstrips in the world. Upon
arrival, you will be met by your local guide and porter, then commence the
first leg of the trek. The trail descends gently downhill, following the Dudh
Koshi River, passing small Sherpa villages, prayer wheels, and mani stones. The
short hike to Phakding only takes about three to four hours, allowing for a
relaxing start to become acclimatized to the altitude. Stay overnight at a
teahouse in Phakding.
Day 2: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)
Today is one of the most challenging days due to the long
ascent into Namche. The trail continues along the river, crossing several high
suspension bridges, one of them very famous: Hillary Bridge. Entering the
Sagarmatha National Park, you start an uphill climb through pine forests. With
your gain in altitude, Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru become more spectacular. The
last two-hour climb brings you to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital, with its
famous market, mountain cafés, and stunning surrounding views. It usually takes
six to seven hours to complete.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
Acclimatization is essential at this altitude, and there are
a number of scenic hikes around Namche. Most people take a hike up to the
Everest View Hotel, one of the highest luxury hotels in the world, from where
stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam are available. Another good
alternative is the visit to Khumjung village, home of Hillary School and a
monastery believed to have yeti scalp. Take a hike and, afterward, return to
Namche for the night. This active rest day allows your body to better acclimate
to the thin air and will serve you well as you go on to higher altitudes on
future treks.
Day 4: Trek from Namche Bazaar back to Lukla
From Namche to Lukla, the journey is quite
long-approximately seven to eight hours-but similarly rewarding. For the most
part, the walk is downhill, down through forests and across rivers, passing
through traditional Sherpa settlements at an even pace. You'll cross the
suspension bridges once more and retrace your steps through Jorsalle and Monjo.
Upon your arrival in Phakding, continue onward for the last uphill push to
Lukla. This is a great evening to celebrate with your guide and the other
trekkers on your final night in the mountains.
After breakfast, board your return flight to Kathmandu. Weather permitting, the flight offers one last look at the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, your trek officially concludes, giving you the rest of the day to relax, explore, or prepare for onward travel.
