Tilicho as the great ice lake and this team walked across
it. The lake sits at the foot of the extensive glaciers system of the Great
Barrier, the highest point of which is Annapurna Tilicho peak. The glaciers terminate in
a vertical wall of ice 70m to 75 m high that forms the west shore of the lake. When
it’s warm, small icebergs calve off and float around the serene waters. The trails
along the shore of both sides of the lake that are shown on most maps are
figments of the are imagination of an overzealous cartographer it’s possible to
get around the west side, but this is a tricky route across a heavily crevassed
glacier with the threat of avalanches. The east- shore trail is stopped dead by
a huge cliff that extends almost vertically into the waters of the lake.
