Sal tree



Sal is a very important timber tree, both for home use and for export. A white resin sal dammar can be tapped from the trunk and this is used for caulking boats and as incense.

 Sal is a large tree shedding most of its leaves in winter. It has a characteristic dark brown, rough and deeply fissured bark. Thi fruit is also conspicuous. Each one having 5 wings, and they hang down in brown clusters.


Sal leaf plates are used for offerings at temple and religious festivals

Koiralo flowers march to April




       In Nepal there are two species of these attractive flowering trees which may be seen along some of the main highways, such as between mugling Bazaar and pokhara on the way to Gorkha and along the Chinese Road east of Dhulikhel. They too have various uses and are often planted around villages.

TAAN delegation meets Tourism Secretary



A delegation of Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) led by Senior Vice President Tashi Lakpa Sherpa met Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya at the latter's office in Singhadurbar on November 18.
At the meeting, the TAAN delegation held discussions with Secretary Thapaliya, who is also the chairperson of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), on different issues related to implementation of Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS). The delegation also requested Secretary Thapaliya to do the needful for releasing TAAN's share from TIMS fund from NTB at the earliest.

TAAN, SAMARTH-NMDP hold introduction meet
The new executive committee of Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) held an introduction meeting with officials of SAMARTH-NMDP in Lalitpur on November 18.
Welcoming the new executive committee, Woulter Schalken, tourism portfolio manager of SAMARTH-NMDP, made a presentation on SAMARTH-NMDP's programs and activities. "Lot of things need to be done for tourism development of Nepal. For that, we need strong partner like TAAN.
Speaking on behalf of the TAAN Executive Committee, General Secretary Karna Bahadur Lama thanked SAMARTH-NMDP for its works for development and promotion of Nepali tourism industry. "SAMARTH-NMDP will have greater role to play in the coming days," he said, adding that TAAN will continue to work for development and promotion of adventure tourism in Nepal.
The meeting was coordinated by TAAN CEO Ganga Sagar Pant.
SAMARTH-NMDP partnered with TAAN to implement Ganesh Himal Manaslu Tourism Development Project.
